]]> A longtime San Diego area psychiatrist may be the one needing therapy as authorities allege that he was collecting excess pain killers and sedatives, then turning around and providing them to other patients at his practice.

According to authorities, El Cajon psychiatrist Dr. Wayne Funk, 87, reportedly collected and distributed a number of drugs, including Diazepam, Lorazepam, Oxycodone and Temazepam.

Funk, who has been practicing for more than 50 years, reportedly took drugs prescribed for patients and gave the unused ones to other individuals. He is alleged to have had a basket in his office with a number of drugs in it.

Funk  faces the revocation of his license or other disciplinary action by the Medical Board. No hearing date has been scheduled.
A number of questions arise from this case, most notably, why would a man with more than 50 years in the business put his career on the line with these alleged actions?

Maybe even more disturbing is wondering how many doctors nationwide actually get caught up in these kinds of actions?

If the allegations prove true, Dr. Wayne Funk has likely counseled his last patient.
