FORT HOOD, Texas (Nov. 5) — A military mental health doctor facing deployment overseas opened fire at the Fort Hood Army post on Thursday, setting off on a rampage that killed 11 other people and left 31 wounded. Authorities killed the gunman, and the violence was believed to be the worst mass shooting in history at a U.S. military base.
The shooting began around 1:30 p.m., when shots were fired at the base’s Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening, said Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood.

Anna Nicole Smith’s psychiatrist gave her a number of prescriptions that allegedly lead to death.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Anna Nicole Smith’s psychiatrist, whom she saw after the death of her son, prescribed her a variation of “pharmaceutical suicide.”

Khristine Eroshevich, Smith’s psychiatrist, prescribed her various prescription drugs that ultimately produced a deadly consequence. Smith’s internist Sandeep Kapoor also participated in writing Smith orders. Pharmacists’ refused several times to refill the drugs, in the best interest of Smith. “They are going to kill her with this,” one of the pharmacists told the Times.

Admitting for the first time what critics have claimed for years, state child-welfare authorities say caregivers for children in state custody frequently use powerful mind-altering drugs to manage unruly kids, rather than treat their anger and sadness.A panel of child-welfare experts, including two top administrators from the state Department of Children & Families, examined the death of a 7-year-old Broward foster child who was on psychotropic medications — without the required consent — when he hanged himself in a Margate home.

The panel’s report, expected to be released publicly later this month, says child welfare authorities too often rely on the potent medications to manage abused and neglected children — but fail to offer psychiatric treatment to help them overcome the trauma they suffered.

A criminal investigation has begun into the death of a patient on a waiting room floor at a city-run psychiatric hospital in Brooklyn last year, the Brooklyn district attorney said on Tuesday.

The district attorney, Charles J. Hynes, said that a grand jury had begun an inquiry into the death of Esmin Green, 49, who died early on June 19, 2008, about 24 hours after arriving by ambulance at Kings County Hospital Center’s psychiatric emergency room, where doctors said she was schizophrenic and ordered her to be involuntarily committed.

According to hospital protocol, Ms. Green should have been given a medical examination before she was admitted.

MARGATE – State officials are investigating whether a 7-year-old boy who hanged himself in his Margate foster home had been given a powerful, mind-altering drug in violation of Florida law.

Three weeks before his April 16 suicide, Gabriel Myers was prescribed the drug Symbyax, which is a combination of the generic forms of the anti-depressant Prozac and the anti-psychosis drug Zyprexa, according to state Department of Children & Families records released Friday night.

But there was no court order in place for Gabriel to use the drug, the records show. Under Florida law, parental consent or a judge’s ruling is needed before a foster child can be administered a psychotropic drug.

The Winnendon, Germany school shooting, which left 17 dead including the gunman, appears to be the latest in the chain of psychiatric drug-induced school shootings. A March 15 article in Scotland on Sunday, revealed that the shooter, Tim Kretschmer, “had been suffering from depression, even attending a clinic and receiving medication for the condition.”

With casualties from school or teen shootings now totaling 54 dead and 105 wounded, the mental health watchdog Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) says it is time to stop vested interests from spouting their usual propaganda about psychiatric drugs, and instead demand a federal investigation for the sake of public safety.

Another Hampton Roads physician has had his medical license suspended for alleged inappropriate prescription of powerful narcotics to patients with chronic pain.

The Virginia Beach psychiatrist, Dr. Mohammed Soori, also is accused of improper sexual activity with patients. Soori faces a hearing in June before the Virginia Board of Medicine, which suspended his license Jan. 29, citing “a substantial danger to the public health or safety.”

It is the second recent license suspension involving a Virginia Beach doctor. Last month, Dr. Stephen Plotnick, a rheumatologist, surrendered his license for two years after the medical board accused him of contributing to a series of patient deaths by improperly prescribing potent painkillers.
